“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)
There are many things in life that people will never do because of fear. Some may never climb the Eiffel Tower because of their fear of heights (acrophobia). Others may never step into a new career because of their fear of failure (atychiphobia). From ablutophobia (the fear of bathing or washing) to zoophobia (the fear of animals), there are hundreds of different fears. So if God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, these hundreds of different fears must be from the enemy.
“And I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.” Luke 10:19 (NLT)
So if the fear is from the enemy, and we have authority over the power of the enemy, we have authority over the fear. This doesn’t mean that you won’t feel fear in your life, it just means that you should not let the fear of doing something have the authority in your life. By giving in to the fear, you give it power, and by giving the fear power you are giving up your authority over the enemy.
“Courage is not the absence of fear; it is action in the presence of fear.” – Joyce Meyer, The Confident Woman
The next time that you feel your fear creeping up inside of you, pray for God’s strength to help you push through it. The more often you push through your fear, the weaker the power of the fear gets.
